Hi, I'm Matthew! I'm a software engineer who builds AI systems and the
evaluations that check whether they actually work. I split my time between
the Bay Area and Atlanta. I love being outside, good wordplay, and taking
pictures of beautiful things and places. I love a good rabbit hole as well,
particularly around biology or Greek mythology.
Selected projects
Wildfire situational awarenessLeading development of an AI platform that gives wildfire responders a clearer, real-time picture of an active fire, using reinforcement learning and computer vision.
Induced seismicity from wastewater disposalBuilt ML models predicting the risk of induced seismic activity from saltwater disposal wells near fracking operations, working from messy field data alongside geoscientists at Stanford.
RetallyUsing code generation to automatically reproduce the analyses in academic papers and check whether their claims hold up.
LostfishAn experiment in adversarial chess AI: an engine that tricks other engines into positions they misjudge.
